DHL offers several guarantees and protection options for shipping goods
DHL offers several guarantees and protection options for shipping goods, focusing on both the physical security of shipments and on-time delivery:
Cargo Insurance/Value Protection (DHL Cargo Insurance):
DHL offers optional coverage to protect goods against damage, theft, or loss during international transit. This protection can cover the full value of the goods, exceeding standard limited liability limits based solely on weight. It covers general, high-risk, and high-value cargo.
Money Back Guarantee: For specific services such as DHL Express Worldwide (especially within the EU), DHL offers a guarantee to refund shipping costs and fuel surcharges if the shipment is delayed beyond the agreed date.
Claims Management: DHL Express has a structured procedure for handling damage claims, which requires retaining the original packaging and providing photographs. They aim to resolve cargo insurance claims within 30 days of receiving the documentation.
Limited Liability: If no additional insurance is purchased, DHL's liability is governed by international conventions (such as The Hague-Visby Convention) and is usually limited to compensation based on weight or number of packages.
Security and Tracking: Security policies are in place to protect shipments, including package tracking throughout the entire process. Key points to consider: The money-back guarantee does not apply to all services (for example, it generally excludes Same Day Delivery). Shipping insurance usually incurs an additional cost, often starting at 3% of the package value for outgoing shipments. It is crucial to comply with the claims procedures, including retaining the original packaging.
What to include in the Shipping Policy
Generally speaking, a Shipping Policy often addresses these types of issues: the timeframe for processing orders; the shipping costs; different domestic and international shipping solutions; potential service interruptions; and much, much more.
